How TevaPatra computes your birth chart
Most astrology apps generate text. TevaPatra computes your chart — sidereal positions, houses, nakshatras — before a single word is written. Here's what happens under the hood.
Every astrology app says it reads your chart. Fewer of them actually compute one. Here’s the difference, and what happens when you enter your birth details in TevaPatra.
Step one: the sky, computed
From your birth date, time, and place, we calculate the actual positions of the nine grahas — Sun through Saturn, plus the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu — using ephemeris-grade astronomy, not lookup tables or hand-waving.
Because Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac (the actual constellations), we apply an ayanamsha correction to shift from the tropical frame Western astrology uses. That’s the ~24° difference that makes your “Scorpio Sun” in a Western app show up differently in a Vedic chart — the positions aren’t wrong, they’re in different frames.
Step two: the chart structure
Positions become a chart:
- Lagna (ascendant) — the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment. It sets house 1 and frames everything else.
- Twelve houses (bhavas) — computed from your location and time, so house boundaries reflect your actual sky.
- Nakshatra placement — each planet’s position within the 27 lunar mansions, down to the pada (quarter).
- North or South Indian format — both rendered from the same computation.
- Retrogrades, combustion, dignity — vakri planets, exaltation, debilitation, own-sign placement, all flagged.
Step three: derived systems
The base chart feeds the timing systems — your Vimshottari dasha timeline is computed from your Moon’s nakshatra at birth, and daily panchanga (tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, karana) is computed for whatever day you’re asking about.
Why this matters for the AI part
When you ask TevaPatra a question, the model isn’t improvising a horoscope. It’s answering against this computed state — your actual placements, your actual running period, the actual panchanga of the day. If the chart doesn’t support a claim, the claim doesn’t ship.
Computation first, conversation second. That’s the whole trick.
